Who are these tours for?
These tours are for curious food travellers over 18+ years of age — who would love to learn while eating through wonderful award-winning bakeries, artisanal cheese shops and in small plate natural wine bars.
What is the size limit of the private tours? If I am traveling alone, can I join a group?
These small, private tours are for 2-4 friends or family traveling together, not solo travelers. Once you register for a date, it belongs solely to you.
Do I need to be physically fit?
The food tours are not speed walking tours but you should be fit enough to be on your feet for three hours. Stores are not always wheelchair accessible, street benches are few and far between and most cafes not willing to share chairs to rest without ordering food or drinks. Just let Wendy know in advance if you have any concerns.
What times are the tours held?
Day tours are usually 3 hours, night tours 3-4 hours. Tours are held Wednesday through Saturday. Each tour has a different start & end time.
Sunday – Tuesday when most food shops & restaurants are closed, the annual holidays in August and Christmas – New Year. Also, throughout the year students get two-week “school vacations” where entire families close up shop and leave together. During these closings & holidays, major museums & monuments stay open, but most food shops & restaurants will most definitely be closed.
How much food & drink is consumed?
The French do not skip meals. Since the morning tours start at 10am, they are purposefully organised so that you will be grazing between breakfast and lunch.
What if I have dietary restrictions or food allergies?
The tours cannot accommodate more than one restriction: lactose intolerant, allergic to gluten, a vegetarian and a non-drinker. Shellfish allergies are fine.
Is this strictly an eating & drinking or a shopping tour?
The private morning tour provides an opportunity to buy pastry, bread, cheese, wine, etc. while we are in the visits, but first and foremost they are informative experiences created so that you come away with a deeper understanding of France’s food, culture and customs. If you are looking for something special, Wendy is happy to point you in the right direction after the tour.
How do I register for a tour?
Simply go to the Calendar & Bookings page.
I have registered for a tour, now what?
Confirmations are sent automatically to the email address that you registered with. It contains details of the tour, meeting point and food & wine questionnaire so that Wendy can know your tastes a bit better before your time together. Technology isn’t perfect, if you haven’t received your confirmation within seconds of registering, please send Wendy an alternate email.
What is the Cancelation Policy?
All reservations are nonrefundable because your space is being guaranteed for your private tour, no exceptions. Walks start promptly. Late arrivals beyond 15 minutes and no shows will be treated as cancelations. Cancelation policies also apply to any agreed upon rescheduled tour. In the event of a rare cancelation on our end for any reason, refunds are made within 30 days of the canceled tour.
Do I have to book in advance? Can I just arrive and pay cash? Can each of us pay separately?
Reservations must be made in advance to hold a date, and can only be purchased by debit or credit card using Paypal. E-checks and cash are not accepted. There is only one payment accepted per date & group.
Weather & Things To Bring Along
All tours take place out of doors on flat terrain while it is raining, freezing, snowing and the sun is shining brightly. During the summer you will be in direct sunlight and will need sunglasses, sunblock and hats. During the winter, your toasty-warm accommodations can be deceiving so be sure to dress for freezing weather and cold brisk wind, including socks and outerwear. The tours cannot stop for buying these types of purchases unless it is an emergency. If the heat reaches more than 90° or any serious weather predicted, you will be contacted prior to the tour to attempt to reschedule.
Are cameras permitted?
Bakeries aside, cameras are most certainly permitted and photos are absolutely encouraged. Video is not.
Are gift certificates available?
Absolutely! Just email@example.com to purchase one.
