The Clown Bar Paris

At a Glance:

Sven Chartier and Ewen Lemoigne's Clown Bar is the hottest address in town right now, and the darling of the food & wine industry who meet there several times a week to socialise for hours over many bottles of wine and lots of delicious sharing plates. Ewen's natural wine list is extensive, and Chef Sota's seasonal food pairings are brilliant...just brilliant. The veal brains and duck foie gras brioche are legendary. Don't laugh at the name, this historic property used to be the clowns' dining room & bar to the adjacent circus next door.

Sample dishes:

Duck foie gras brioche "pithivers", Caramelized pork belly crepe, Raw bonito/horseradish/tosazu, Poached veal brains in ponzu sauce, Langoustine beignets, Beef tartare/smoked Burrata/pine nuts, Riz de veau/puree potatoes, Panko fried bulot snails/spicy mayo.

WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:

The Clown Bar is not a quiet romantic restaurant – it is a popular fast-paced wine bar packed with people who all know each other table-hopping to say hello. If you prefer a calmer environment, reserve at their sister restaurant Saturne

As part of the buzzy wine bar ambiance, they use an a la carte menu format so that diners can order several plates to share, 4-6 plates (8-12 on the menu) are the norm. Don’t be surprised to see chefs and food industry folk ordering the entire menu, twice. They are there to socialise and not leaving any time soon.
